Project Role

On this SCRI project, Dr. Piñero contributes to the development and validation of semiochemical-based monitoring and management strategies, including odor-baited trap trees for plum curculio and improved semiochemical formulations for orchard pest detection, while translating findings into grower-centered Extension recommendations.

Research Bio

Dr. Piñero leads an integrated research and Extension program developing sustainable, grower-driven IPM strategies for specialty crops. His research focuses on chemical ecology, attract-and-kill systems, and biological control approaches, including entomopathogenic nematodes and fungi, to reduce reliance on conventional insecticides. Through collaborations with fruit growers, he translates innovative pest management technologies into practical solutions that improve suppression, productivity, and profitability.
