Blaauw and Rivera Talk Tree Fruit IPM Research on AgriCurious Podcast

Two members of the Cultivating Tomorrow's Orchards research team sat down to discuss apple and peach pests plaguing eastern U.S. orchards and the work our team is doing to create innovative integrated pest management (IPM) solutions.

Dennis Baffour-Awuah, of the Lamm Lab at the University of Georgia, hosts the AgriCurious podcast, a show that "explores the science, stories, and people behind agriculture and beyond the farm."

Dennis spoke with Dr. Brett Blaauw, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist at the University of Georgia and Clemson University, about the common orchard pests affecting peaches. Blaauw discussed the challenges peach growers in the southeast are facing and what future tree fruit IPM techniques could look like for peach orchards, especially in the face of high humidity and pests like plum curculio.

Dr. Monique Rivera, Assistant Professor at Cornell AgriTech and Faculty Fellow at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, shared her perspective on the challenges apple growers are facing in the northeastern U.S. while emphasizing the importance of Extension in sharing the latest research-based information with growers and receiving grower feedback.
